Founded in 1924, Morning Music Club is the oldest continuously functioning music organization in Rockland County. It attracts members from across the county and includes music lovers and patrons as well as musicians.

The Club is well known for its Concert Series, its Outreach Program and its Scholarship Prizes awarded to seniors graduating from Rockland County High Schools.

The Club received a 1994 County Executive’s Arts Award and is the beneficiary of an annual grant from the County of Rockland.

2009 - 2010 Concert Schedule

The Concert year from November to May features professional musicians. Generally held on Tuesday mornings, the free concerts cover a wide range of musical offerings. Non-members in attendance are invited to make a donation to the Club’s Scholarship Fund. This year, all performances will be held at the Nauraushaun Presbyterian Church, 51 Sickletown Road, Pearl River at times noted below.

OPENING CONCERT

Korliss Uecker, soprano, has performed roles with the Metropolitan, Caracas, Monte Carlo and Santa Fe Opera Companies. She has performed at the Spoleto, Ravinia and Tanglewood Festivals. Jerry Grossman, principal cellist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, has appeared as guest artist with Guarneri, Vermeer and Emerson String Quartets. Fredrica Wyman, pianist, is a popular accompanist, soloist and teacher in Rockland, as well as artistic director of GraceMusic, Nyack.

WINTER RECITAL

Ulla Westlund, Swedish soprano, made her debut at the BBC Royal Gala Opening, won the Swedish Culture Award and has performed for the Scandia in the Park Concert Series. Her 2009 opera CD features the Verismo opera “Vanna”by Pavanelli. Stefan Waldemarson, violinist, teaches at the Lars-Erik Larsson in Lund. He appeared as the fiddler in the Malmo production of “Fiddler on the Roof.” Lauren Riley Rigby, cellist, is a valued member of the Silhouette Quartet and the Numinous Ensemble. Sean Riley, violinist, is an active soloist and chamber musician in NYC, recently appearing in MOMA’s Summergarden Series, on WQXR, and performing with the Juilliard Orchestra’s tour of China. Irene Florence Wong, pianist, winner of the Yamaha Canada Grand Prize, has performed at Alice Tully Hall and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Last summer, she toured in Sweden with the Musical Seasons Quartet and performed in Tokyo with the New Juilliard Ensemble.

This recital showcases the Rockland High School winners of our 2010 Scholarship Awards. A reception follows.

OUTREACH PROGRAMS

In keeping with its purpose of “serving as a cultural, charitable and educational organization,” Morning Music Club sponsors special programs for older adults, youth, children, and the physically and mentally challenged citizens of Rockland. Programs this year will be presented at Nyack Head Start, Dowling Gardens in Sparkill, the Bobbi Lewis Adult Care Center, ARC, Association for the Visually Impaired, Elmwood Club in Valley Cottage, and Haverstraw Head Start.


Seniors from all Rockland County high schools are invited to apply for competitive scholarships toward the furtherance of their musical education.
