Morning Music Club (MMC) was established in 1924 by a group of professional women musicians in the Nyack area. Today, MMC attracts both men and women as members from Rockland and adjacent counties, and includes music lovers and patrons as well as musicians.

MMC serves the community culturally, through its Concert Series; educationally, through its Music Scholarship Awards; and charitably, through its Outreach Program.
OUTREACH PROGRAM

MMC sponsors special music programs in the community for the young, elderly and the physically and mentally challenged.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

Since 1950 MMC has held annual scholarship auditions for musically talented Rockland County High School seniors who plan to continue their music studies in college or conservatory. Winners are awarded monetary scholarships and are showcased in a public recital.

CONCERTS

MMC features professional musicians from Rockland County and the greater NYC area in its annual Concert Series. Concerts are generally held on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. and cover a wide range of musical offerings.

Carpooling is recommended. Donations are accepted at the door.

OPENING CONCERT

NOVEMBER 15, 2011
 
Cantor Sally Neff Greenberg, soprano, holds degrees in Vocal Performance and Judaic Studies from Oberlin Conservatory and College, respectively. She has performed in the United States, Israel and Rome. Currently, she is in her seventh year as Cantor at Temple Beth Torah in Nyack, NY.  Her accompanist today is Steve Iger.

HOLIDAY CONCERT

DECEMBER 6, 2011
Morning Music Club Chorus will perform under the direction of Melissa Manning.  Zara Lawler, flutist, will also perform as guest artist. A carol sing and reception will follow.

DUO RECITAL - BASS, PIANO

MARCH 13, 2012
Christopher Temporelli, bass, holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan, and has performed in Opera, at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and on stage with Metropolitan Opera star Licia Albanese.

Quentin Kim, pianist, earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State, a master’s degree from The Juilliard School, and has performed at Alice Tully Hall and throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia.

TRIO - VIOLIN, CLARINET, PIANO

APRIL 17, 2012
Olga Dusheina Dougherty, violinist, began her studies at age thirteen at the Kiev State University. Currently, she is concertmaster of the Hawthorne, Taconic and Chappaqua Symphony Orchestras, and performs regularly with the Rockland Symphony Orchestra.

Dennis Doherty, clarinetist, received degrees in Applied Clarinet and Composition from Michigan State University. He studied with principal clarinetists of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the New Philharmonic Orchestra, London.

Ioamis Potomousis, pianist, has toured throughout America, Europe and the Middle East. He has performed concertos with the New York New Amsterdam and New Jersey Symphony Orchestras and with the Athens State Orchestra, Greece.

An Invitation to Join MMC

Morning Music Club’s main thrust is to support and promote fine music.  MMC provides music lovers a venue to enjoy and appreciate professional musicians from Rockland County and the greater NY area. Our members provide scholarships to Rockland County High School seniors to further their musical education. MMC provides outreach to community charities by sponsoring local musicians to perform. MMC Chorus, a volunteer ensemble from our membership also performs for senior centers and nursing homes in the area.

MMC Chorus
Open to all members. No auditions required. A professional director holds approximately nine weekly rehearsals during the autumn season to prepare for the December Holiday Concert. The Chorus often repeats their performances at a Senior Center or similar venue as part of MMC’s Outreach Program.
