The band numbers from 35-50 volunteer musicians, depending on the time of the year.
Ages range from 14 to over 70! Male and female, nurse, teacher, homemaker, computer programmer, machinist, student, explosives expert, policeman, newspaper printer, research scientist, communications engineer --- to name just a few of the diverse occupations.
Multi-racial and multi-national, our volunteers come from truly diverse backgrounds to unite in the shared effort of making beautiful music.
>Within the main body, there is also a 17-piece swing band, a 7-piece jazz combo, "Jazz Express," a Dixieland group and a brass ensemble.
The concert band rehearses 46 weeks out of the year at the Nanuet Senior High School with supplemental locations at the Spring Valley Salvation Army building and the United Church of Spring Valley and North Rockland High School.
We play a wide variety of music from Lght Classical, Broadway shows, movie themes, patriotic arrangements, marches and TV tunes.
The band is part of the adult educations programs of most of the county's schools, including Rockland Community College, which is also a work site for Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP).
We are looking for additional band members. If you played fairly well in high school or college, dust off your instrument and come out to our rehearsal. Musicianship comes back fast!
