Major Health Problems for Women in Rockland County

As would be expected for an audience of people interested in breast cancer, nearly half of the respondents felt that breast cancer was the most important health related problem for women in Rockland County. Other areas of major concern, with nearly or more than a third of respondents choosing these, were access to quality affordable health care, environmental issues, and osteoporosis. Heart disease, pre and post menopausal issues, and depression and mental health were also of concern to approximately one quarter of respondents. In part, because the attendees were generally not of childbearing age, but were predominantly women in their 40s, 50s and older, pregnancy and prenatal issues, substance use, HIV and other areas were not chosen as leading issues by this self-selected group of Rockland County women.
