Our Mission
|
Founded in 1978 by Dr. William Reese, the Rockland Camerata is a chamber-chorus of 35 mixed voices with a chamber orchestra as complement. Its purpose is to perform music, both secular and sacred from the Sixteenth century to the present day. We are a group of dedicated men and women who enjoy the opportunity to become acquainted with fine music and perform with professional instrumentalists and vocal soloists. We have a distinguished history of bringing music of high caliber to the lower Hudson Valley, and we have worked with many other groups, such as the Rockland Symphony Orchestra, the Rockland County Choral Society, and the Rockland Opera Society, in our efforts to share and promote the enjoyment of classical music. |

She is well known to metropolitan audiences through her appearances with Continuum, Speculum Musicae, and Music for a While.
Dear Friends of the Rockland Camerata:
We had the audience dancing! The 2006 season ended with another collaboration, this time with the African dancing and drumming group, Chiku Awali. The response was so wonderful that we gave a repeat performance at Rockland Community College. Featured was the rarely heard "Missa Luba." The highlight of last season was a memorial concert for William Reese, the founder of The Rockland Camerata, in which we performed works by two of Dr. Reese's favorite composers: Heinrich Schütz and J. S. Bach. In the spring we presented a semi-staged performance of Henry Purcell's "Dido and Aeneas." The 2007-2008 season began with a collaboration with the Rockland County Choral Society, culminating with both groups singing Bach’s motet “Komm Jesu Komm”. Our spring concert, May 17, 2008, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in New City will again feature J.S. Bach- his Cantata #80, “Ein Feste Burg Ist Unser Gott” and his 3rd Brandenburg Concerto. Beethoven and Brahms works will round out the program with romantic sensibilities. Tastes change, and musical styles evolve, but the joy of listening to live music in a concert setting will live on, as fresh and exciting as ever. We need your financial support in order to continue to bring our unique musical programs to the residents of Rockland County. Please help support the arts for tomorrow’s audiences as well as today’s. Happy listening!
Sincerely,
|
