Ron Zisman
Principal, Ricochet: Identity+Information Design;
Creative Director, SundialMMW
Educated at Carnegie Mellon University and Pratt Institute (BFA '72) with
post graduate work at the School of Visual Arts (graphic design) and the
International Center of Photography (photojournalism), he has been
practicing in the field since 1972. Before starting his own firm in
1980(Zisman/Design), Ron was corporate art director for the National
Audubon Society where he was responsible for advertising, publications
(including Audubon Magazine), books and corporate collaterals. Prior to
this position, Ron was senior designer for an annual report firm, launched
and art directed Backpacker magazine, and reformatted a number of
publications for Ziff-Davis and the United Nations. In 1998, the firm
changed its name to Ricochet:Identity+Information Design. In 1999, Mr.
Zisman co-founded Sundial MultiMedia Ware, an internet development company
specializing in ASP and database driven websites, intranets and extranets.
The studio handles a diverse spectrum of accounts encompassing disciplines
in advertising, publishing, packaging, corporate identity, signage,
collaterals and electronic publishing. Having evolved from an editorial
background, Ron emphasizes communication over eye-candy. In the twenty
years the firm has been in business, Mr. Zisman has had the good fortune to
work for some outstanding clients: IBM, Lotus Development, Milliken
Research, National Park Service, American Medical Assoc., North Carolina
Museum of Art, The City of New York, 13/30 Publications and Straight Arrow
Publications (Rolling Stone).
Awards and Honors
Ron's work has been published in Print magazine, Graphis magazine,
Communication Arts, Print Casebooks, and his work has been included in the
Library of Congress and Mead Library of Ideas. He has received major awards
from the Printing Industry of America, New York Art Directors Club,
American Institute of Graphic Arts, Society of Publication Designers
(including the Jerome Snyder Award) and the Columbia School of Journalism.
