To provide volunteer opportunities for income eligible seniors, 60+, to work with the special needs children throughout Rockland County.

Foster Grandparents Program
Foster Grandparents volunteer 20 hours a week at 26 health and education related stations throughout Rockland County. They usually serve 4 hours a day 5 days a week. If they use school bus s transportation they work 5 hours a day for 4 days a week. They receive a noon-taxable stipend of $2.45 an hour to defray the cost of their volunteering. They receive assistance with transportation and meal daily, insurance while on assignment, education and training, annual physical and recognition for their valuable community service. They work one to one and/or in small groups with children with special needs, under supervision of a professional. The children receive extra attention to assist them in social, emotional, and academic development. The children may have a physical, mental, developmental disability, be economically, academically or socially disadvantaged. Many come from single parent homes, non-English speaking family, or families with a history of drug and/or alcohol abuse.
